The homogenizer mixer is one of the specialized and widely used equipment in various industries, which is used for uniform mixing, spreading particles, reducing the size of materials and producing a product with a uniform texture. Using shear force, eddy current and engineered design of rotor and stator, this device provides the possibility of crushing materials up to 10 microns. For this reason, the homogenizer mixer has an important place in the food, pharmaceutical, cosmetic, chemical, dyeing and detergent industries.
In many production processes, just combining materials is not enough; Rather, solid particles, liquids, oils, and various compounds must be dispersed in very small dimensions and in a completely uniform manner. The homogenizer mixer responds to this need by creating intense and controlled cutting and increases the final quality of the product. By providing specialized industrial equipment, Ariamachine company provides suitable solutions for choosing and making a homogenizer mixer according to the capacity and type of production process.
What is a homogenizer mixer?
The generated shear force breaks the masses of material and turns large particles into smaller particles. At the same time, the flow created inside the tank causes the material to move in the entire volume of the mixture. This process creates a uniform and stable mixture where the possibility of settling, separation or clumping is reduced.
The homogenizer mixer can be designed as a bottom tank, inside tank, linear or inline. Choosing the right model depends on factors such as the viscosity of the material, production capacity, required amount of crushing, process temperature and product sensitivity.
Application of homogenizer mixer in crushing up to 10 microns
One of the most important capabilities of the homogenizer mixer is reducing the size of particles and creating very fine dispersion. In some formulations, reaching dimensions close to 10 microns is very important; Because the size of the particles has a direct effect on the appearance, texture, stability, reaction speed and performance of the product.
Combining up to 10 microns means turning large particles or masses of material into very fine particles in a suitable environment. The homogenizer mixer uses a combination of several factors to achieve this goal:
- High speed of rotor rotation
- Exact distance between rotor and stator
- Generation of strong shearing force
- Continuous circulation of materials in the tank
- Control of mixing time
- Regulation of temperature and viscosity
- Correct selection of rotor and stator geometry
How the homogenizer mixer works
The operation of the homogenizer mixer is based on creating mechanical cutting and intense circulation of materials. Raw materials enter the tank first. Then the rotor starts rotating at high speed. The rotation of the rotor moves the material radially or axially and directs it towards the stator area.
In this area, the material passes through the narrow gaps between the rotor and the stator. High passing speed and limited space between the parts cause the creation of speed gradient and shear force. This force separates the masses and reduces the size of the particles. After passing through the stator, the material circulates again in the tank and the process continues until the required homogeneity is reached.
In some equipment, the homogenizer mixer is combined with the vacuum system. Using vacuum reduces air bubbles, improves product quality, and increases emulsion stability. This feature is very important in the production of creams, ointments, gels, sauces, cosmetic products and medicinal compounds.
The difference between a homogenizer mixer and a regular mixer
Normal mixer is mostly used to combine materials and create general mixing, but in addition to mixing, the homogenizer mixer is also responsible for reducing the particle size and creating a uniform texture. In conventional mixers, coarse particles, lumps or parts with different concentrations may remain. This issue is problematic in products that require high quality and stability.
The homogenizer mixer transfers more energy to the materials in a small area due to the rotor and stator with a precise design. This concentration of energy makes the homogenization process faster and more effective. As a result, the final product will have better quality in terms of appearance, texture, stability and performance.
Application of homogenizer mixer in food industry
Food industries are one of the most important consumers of homogenizer mixers. Products such as sauce, mayonnaise, ketchup, various beverages, dairy products, edible creams, chocolate, vegetable butters, and nutritional supplements need accurate mixing and uniform texture.
In the production of mayonnaise, the homogenizer mixer is responsible for creating a stable emulsion between the oil and the aqueous phase. If the oil droplets are not small and uniform enough, the product will separate. Using a homogenizer mixer can reduce the droplet size and increase the stability of the product.
In the production of sauces and thick products, this device also helps in the uniform distribution of spices, stabilizers and solid particles. Reducing the particle size to a suitable range creates a better feeling when consumed and improves the appearance of the product. In dairy products, the homogenizer mixer causes better distribution of fat and reduces the possibility of forming separate layers.
Application of homogenizer mixer in pharmaceutical industries
In the pharmaceutical industry, uniformity and accuracy are very important. Active pharmaceutical ingredients should be distributed equally in all parts of the product so that each dose has the same effect. The homogenizer mixer is used to produce syrups, suspensions, creams, ointments, gels, medicinal solutions and medical emulsions.
Shrinking up to 10 microns in some pharmaceutical formulations increases the contact surface of particles and improves their dispersibility. Finer particles can help create a more uniform and stable texture. However, in the pharmaceutical industry, parameters such as process temperature, contamination, washability, material of parts, and the possibility of sterilizing the device should be carefully checked.
The homogenizer mixer used in this industry is usually made of high-quality stainless steel, and its design must be in harmony with sanitary requirements and controlled production. Ariamachine can provide advice on choosing the right material, type of sealing, washing system and control equipment for sensitive applications.
Application of homogenizer mixer in cosmetics industry
Creams, lotions, shampoos, masks, gels, sunscreens and skin care products are usually produced from a combination of several different phases. To create a product with a beautiful appearance, suitable texture and high stability, it is necessary to homogenize the materials well.
The homogenizer mixer helps to produce products with a soft and uniform texture by reducing the size of the particles and distributing the ingredients evenly. In making skin creams, proper homogenization makes the product spread easily on the skin and no noticeable grains remain.
In the production of shampoo and gel, this device also helps to distribute concentrates, perfumes, colors and active ingredients. Using the right homogenizer mixer can reduce the production time and prevent the creation of excess foam or air entering the product.
Application of homogenizer mixer in chemical and dye industries
In the chemical, paint and coating industries, the uniformity of particle dispersion is of fundamental importance. Pigments, fillers and additives must be completely dispersed in the resin or solvent. The presence of accumulated particles can cause quality loss, color change, reduction of coating and instability of the product.
The homogenizer mixer is widely used for dispersing pigments and producing uniform compounds. This machine is used in the production of water-based paints, industrial coatings, printing ink, glue, resin and chemical additives.
Shrinking up to 10 microns in this area can help to increase the contact surface of particles, improve color distribution and reduce sedimentation. For high-viscosity materials, it may be necessary to use a homogenizer along with high-speed mixers or premix equipment.
Factors affecting the reduction of 10 microns
Achieving a particle size of 10 microns does not depend only on the engine power of the machine. Several factors must be considered simultaneously. The first factor is the type of raw material. Soft, brittle or powdery materials are usually crushed more easily than hard and abrasive materials.
Rotation speed, rotor diameter, stator type, shape of holes and distance between parts also affect the final size of particles. The time the materials stay in the device and the temperature of the process must also be controlled. Excessive temperature increase may damage sensitive compounds or change viscosity.
Advantages of using a homogenizer mixer
The homogenizer mixer has significant advantages for production lines. Its most important advantage is creating a uniform product with constant quality. This device can reduce lumps, disperse particles better and reduce the possibility of phase separation.
The proper design of the device can also make cleaning and maintenance easier. The use of corrosion-resistant parts, proper sealing system and standard electrical panel increases the useful life of the homogenizer mixer.
Guide to choosing a homogenizer mixer
In order to choose a homogenizer mixer, several main parameters must be specified. The capacity of the tank, type of material, viscosity, solid percentage, required amount of crushing and production time are the most important things. It should also be specified that the device is used in batches or continuously.
The power of the motor must be in harmony with the volume and concentration of the material. A weak engine will reduce performance and increase depreciation, while choosing an engine that is too big can increase the purchase cost and energy consumption.
The type of parts in contact with the product is also very important. In the food, pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries, it is usually recommended to use stainless steel with a suitable polishing level. The type of sealing, washing capability, remote control, heating or cooling system, and the possibility of working in a vacuum should also be compatible with the needs of the production line.
Ariamachine, due to its experience in the field of process equipment, can be from the stage of examining the need to the design, construction and commissioning of the homogenizer mixer along with the production sets. The accurate selection of the device reduces the costs of repairs and subsequent changes and increases the efficiency of the line.
Maintaining and increasing the life of the homogenizer mixer
After the end of production, the device should be washed according to the instructions. Residual material around the rotor and stator can reduce efficiency, corrode or contaminate the next product. If abrasive materials are used, it is necessary to periodically check the looseness of the parts and the condition of the surface of the rotor and stator.
Also, lubrication of the authorized parts, control of the electrical panel and periodic inspection of the engine should be included in the maintenance program. Correct use of the device and compliance with its nominal capacity will prevent additional pressure on the engine and parts.
